In today's blog post we would like to deal with the following question: How do I change a watch strap or a clasp? Unfortunately, this also applies here: No rule without exception! But most watch straps or clasps can be changed very easily. How? Read this blog and find out how you can do it in the twinkling of an eye!
A normal watch strap is held by a so-called spring bar on the case of the watch. It concerns here a small metal tube in which a spring is, which presses left and right a small web outward. To release the bracelet from the case of the watch, this spring must be compressed a little.
The easiest way to do this is with a spring bar tool. Usually such tools have two sides. One looks like a small fork. This side can be pushed between the watch bracelet and the watch case. So you can compress the spring bar and the watch strap can be easily detached from the case. The spring bar can then be removed and the watch strap replaced.
There are also watches that have a small hole in their case where the strap is connected to the case. For such types, most spring bar tools have a small mandrel on the other side which can be used to compress the spring bar. The rest works the same as the other version.
TIP: If you are unsure or are changing a watch strap for the first time, it is advisable to place the watch upside down on a soft cloth. The watch can then be better fixed to perform the change. In addition, you can tape the horns of the watch - the part where the watch strap is connected to the case - with a small strip of tape. Changing a clasp works in most cases according to the same principle. Here, too, the clasp is held in place by a small spring bar on the watch strap and can also be exchanged.
